Cal Ripken & Babe Ruth Leagues

HBL offers recreational baseball programs throughout the spring season. Our goal is to provide an environment where all children can develop their baseball skills while having a fun experience being part of a team. We offer recreational teams from ages 5 through 18.  Through our Buddy League, we also provide one of the area's only baseball leagues for mentally and physically challenged youths.  Managers and coaches of all teams are expected to provide proper instruction and guidance while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

NOTE:  Players are not allowed to skip leagues without approval from the HBL Board of Directors.

Players based on their age as of May 1st 2026 will be placed, by default, in the following league:

ROOKIE RAIDERS – (Ages 4): This is a introduction to baseball that is run by our HHS Coaches and players. It runs on Sundays normally in the afternoon and will go about 6-7 weeks. Cost is $25 per player + workbond fee.

COLONIAL LEAGUE – (Ages 5-6): This an instructional league with slightly more attention to team play. Players receive on-field instruction in batting, fielding, game rules, safety, and good sportsmanship. All players are placed on teams. A soft-core baseball is used and coaches pitch to the players (using a Tee as needed in the beginning of the season. All players bat and all players’ field. Games times are usually 6:00pm during the week (Mondays or Tuesdays or Thursdays) and on Saturdays between 9am-6pm. Cost is $175 per player + workbond fee.

ROOKIE LEAGUE – (Ages 7-8): This instructional league continues where Colonial left off. Players receive on-field instruction in batting, fielding, sliding, game rules, safety, and good sportsmanship. All players are placed on teams. Introduction of kid pitch happens in this league (Coach pitch 1st , 2nd , 5th ,6th innings and player pitch 3rd and 4th innings). A soft-core baseball is used, and informal substitution rules are followed. Games times are usually 6:00pm during the week (Mondays or Wednesdays) and on Saturdays between 9am-6pm. Cost is $225 per player + workbond fee.

CACTUS LEAGUE – (Ages 9-10): This league is semi-competitive with teams formed based on evaluations and a draft. Coaches will players play some different positions, including pitcher and catcher, and all players are guaranteed playing time in every game. A post-season playoff is held, in which all teams participate, to determine a season champion. Games during the week are played either on Tuesday or Thursday night, with most games played at 6:00pm and an occasional game at 8:00pm. Games on Saturdays will usually be between 9am-6pm. Cost is $225 + workbond fee.

GULF LEAGUE 50/70 Field – (Ages 11-12): This competitive league plays on the 50/70 field, with standings maintained, and an exciting end-of-season playoff in which all teams participate. Players follow more advanced rules, including leading, stealing on pitch, and pitching with runners on base rules (from the stretch), etc. Teams are selected in a draft. Players may expect to focus on specific playing positions and to learn more advanced skills. Games during the week are played either on Tuesday or Thursday night, with most games played at 6:00pm and an occasional game at 8:00pm. Games on Saturdays will usually be between 9am-6pm. Cost is $250 + workbond fee.

JR/SR SENIOR LEAGUE – (Ages 13-15): A competitive league, with standings maintained, and end-of-season playoffs. Games are played on the major league 90 foot fields, and rules follow Babe Ruth guidelines. These teams will play in the Bridgewater league which is a competitive league that plays as part of a local network of teams, with home and away games each week. Cost is $250 + workbond fee.

GRADUATE LEAGUE – (Ages 16-18): A competitive league that plays as part of a local network of teams, with home and away games each week. The spring season runs at about the same time as the regular Rec season, from mid-April through Mid-June. Games are played on the major league 90 foot fields, and rules follow Babe Ruth guidelines. Cost is $250 + workbond fee.

For all leagues (except ROOKIE RAIDERS) practices will start mid-March with game starting after spring break, week of April 7th 2026 with opening Day officially on Saturday April 12th 2026. Rec season will conclude around June 21st  2026.

Workbond Requirements and Information

HBL offers two types of work bond fees:

Work bond fee 5 Hour Volunteer. This fee will be reimbursed to you after you sign up and complete 5 hours of volunteering for HBL. If you do not fulfill your 5 hours by Oct 25th 2026 the fee is a direct payment to HBL and is non-reimbursable.

Work bond fee NON volunteer. This fee is a direct deposit to HBL and is non-reimbursable. You are opting out of the 5 hour volunteer for HBL.

  • Work Bond Fee- NON Volunteer | $150.00
